A TASTE OF HISTORY
ABOUT THE KNOLL HISTORIC GUEST FARM
Situated on the historic farm of "The Knoll" in Hilton, Natal Midlands, the Knoll has a rich history of hospitality. It has catered for early transport riders, passing troops and even Jan Smuts. Since 1850 the knoll has variously been a farm, hunting lodge, hotel, school, country estate and family home. The views from the Guesthouse are stunning, looking over rolling farmlands and forests.
In January 1850 John Philip Zietsman was granted a large area of land in what was known as Groene Kloof. He was the first Landrost of Pietermaritzburg and stayed behind when the Voor-Trekkers returned to the Orange Free State and Transvaal.
We had such a wonderful time at The Knoll! Our small family (myself, wife & toddler) loved being in the open space, and beautiful surroundings. Our toddler was fascinated by the horses, and the views greeting us in the evening & morning were superb!
The check-in process was quick & easy, and there was always somebody available to answer any questions. (There are also clear instructions on the wall,e.g. for how to operate the shower.)
A comfortable bed, with high quality bedding, as well as fresh towels were supplied.
The Knoll is situated close to shops & restaurants, and is a must stay if you're in the Hilton area!
There was a wall full of books to choose from to read I started on one but couldn't finish as our stay was not long enough Also liked the farm environment, away from the concrete jungle! Nice big property to explore, so one can get some walking done for a change!!
A very enjoyable stay & will definitely be staying at the Knoll again.
The location is very good, with beautiful views, a lovely place to stay! Easy safe access & the rooms were comfortable. Enjoy having a little heater in the room & the kitchenette had everything one needed.
